Than a person in customer service telling me something I already know
Went to the dealer about my TPMS issue. Told the advisor that the car is saying “TPMS System Fault”. He pulls the car in, puts it on a machine that checks the air on all 4 wheels.
Turns to me and says ‘Well, all the pressures were spot on’
.
.
.
I fucking know that. I didn’t tell you the TPMS light was on, I told you it has a fault and one wheel isn’t programming. “Oh okay, maybe it’s a bad sensor”
Sigh.
They took it by a tech, he got it to program. Still don’t know why I had an issue but whatever, it works now

It’s not like he was being a dick right? It could be that you’re taking your pre-existing anger on an unsuspecting tech!

Sure. But so many people come in adamant that this out that is perfect and but to check it, and then it turns out they were wrong. It would be negligent of us not to check everything, starting with the simplest things.

I friggin’ LOVE it when people try to tell me how my car works and how awful it is to maintain.

That happened to me when I took my car in for the open recall on the transmission. (Yay, Ford DCTs! /s)
It could have been one (or all) of the following issues:
Leaky transmission seals, buggy software in the TCM, bad clutches, or it could’ve been the actual transmission itself that needed replacing.
I live far from the dealership I bought it at, so my dad and I switched cars for the week so he could drop it off. He calls me a day and a half later saying he’s got the car back. “ORLY?????” I think to myself. I asked what they said about the transmission. He said nothing. They told him they’d addressed all the recalls (it had a non-Takata-related airbag recall and a door latch recall) and it was good to go.
Something smelled rotten to me, so I went back to them when I finally had a day off. Asked them about the transmission. Dude said it was fine. I asked if they had checked it. Dude says, and I fucking quote, “We don’t go looking for problems in people’s cars.”
I said there’s an open recall on it. He says it’s just a warranty extension. I said it’s an extension to cover a recall because several million of these transmissions are faulty as fuck (didn’t use profanity).
He reaches across his desk and grabs a printout and hands it to me, saying I just might not understand how DCTs work and that this fact sheet would explain it to me.
I insisted on setting up an appointment with their transmission guy. Less than a week later, guess what he found: bad clutches that needed replacing.
It took three months for them to come into the dealership because there was such a long backlog of Fiestas needing the exact same recall repair.

To be fair, 85 percent of his customers probably have no idea how to check their tire pressure.

Yes, and I agree, but don’t come to me claiming to have fixed it when the light is still on

Eh, he wasn’t a dick but he wasn’t being super helpful either. It was annoying, but I wasn’t angry or anything.

That’s fair. But it doesn’t take a genius to see that even with the pressure spot on the TPMS light is still on

I’ll never forget the time a customer rolled into the shop with one tire completely gacked due to a blown out sidewall. My dad and I were closing up at the time but offered to put a cheap used tire on her wheel to get her by for a while. She was insistent on us just “adding air”. . . . . She was in a then-new MKZ and didn’t want to spend the 25$ or whatever my dad offered to mount a used tire on her STOCK RIM! Not even a donut wheel, but the stock 18 or 19" or whatever alloy. She argued with us to just hook up the compressor and shed be fine because “you guys wouldn’t charge for air like the gas station, right?”. She literally drove down the street, possibly scraping up her wheel, because the gas station down the street charged for air.....which she thought would magically fix a blown out sidewall.
...sorry for the rant, but I can understand. I guarantee you someone did show up at their shop and said the sensors we’re broke but really they just didn’t check the tires....it’s wrong, but it’s an understandable wrong from where I sit. The stupid far out number the smart.
